Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill:

I find it unbelievable that we do not have a fully tested, well rehearsed, emergency response plan in place to combat the oil spill that occurred in the Gulf of Mexico. The federal government employs tens of thousands of highly paid individuals to oversee the oil industry's activities off our shores and not one is smart enough to realize that with 3500 offshore oil rigs we need highly trained emergency response teams in place to combat any and all oil rig mishaps. Fire Departments, Police Departments and every emergency response agency in our Nation train and practice for every possible emergency, yet the Departments overseeing offshore oil rigs had no clear plan or even a team in place. In light of this revelation, I call on our President to order an immediate review of all safety and emergency response plans for all our nuclear facilities. We do not want to hear more sad stories in case of a nuclear mishap.

Using chemicals, that have not been fully tested, to break up the oil in the Gulf is a recipe for disaster. They will contaminate the entire eco-system of the Gulf for generations and we will end up with these chemicals in our food supply and bodies for decades.

Americans have to deal with this because campaign contributions, large steaks, expensive parties with pretty girls and gifts have always come first over the interests and welfare of the American people. In New York City, under Mayor Bloomberg, you cannot give an Inspector a friendly cup of coffee without both of you going to jail. It is time to implement those same "zero tolerances" at the Federal Level. Our President must fire everyone involved and double check every place the American interests and safety are vulnerable

Our Nation must still push forward with drilling offshore but immediately implement a fully tested and rehearsed emergency response plan to deal with any further mishaps. Americans should not suffer because of the gross negligence of federal employees and the stupidity of oil executives. However, we should never put our economy ahead of the preservation of our Country’s greatest asset, Nature. We can always make money, but once we destroy our environment we will suffer for countless decades.

I completely agree with you. We must make this spill a major priority and anyone within the government that tries to exploit the situation for personal gains should be dealt with.

You should check out <a href="http://wasserman2010.com>Paul Wasserman</a>. He's running for the 18th district of New York and he is a big proponent of keeping our country clean and safe.
