Murphy was born in Yorkville, New York City, and graduated from Lawrence Academy, the College of New Rochelle and received a Masters in Education from New York University. Murphy is survived by her husband, Francis T. Murphy; children, Timothy , Eileen Forsyth, Kathleen Scott, Sheila Sproule, Annemarie Casey; brother, Thomas Casey; and 10 grandchildren.
