She was born on August 11, 1934, in New York City and attended the Ursuline Academy in New Rochelle, NY. She studied biology at Trinity College in Washington, DC, and for a year at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas, where she met the love of her life Kenneth Schwarz.
